What We Believe

New Life believes that God created the universe, and created humankind with some characteristics like himself.  Therefore, we believe that God’s intention, in creating humans, was for them to have joyful and eternal partnership, relationship and fellowship with him.

Humans have a God-given freedom of choice.  Unfortunately we often use that freedom to do what is wrong and unacceptable to God.  This habitual way of living, called sin, spoils the partnership, relationship and fellowship with God, endangering and severing it so badly that there is nothing humans can do about it, and nothing they can do to compensate God for doing him wrong.

God, knowing that humans could not make amends on their own, allows his Son (who shares his nature as God) to take on the form of a human being and be born, physically into the world as Jesus Christ.  He comes to make the compensation for sin that humans could not make.  Jesus pays the death-penalty for humankind’s sin, paving the way for the renewal of the partnership, relationship and fellowship that God still intends for those humans who want to share it with him in joyful eternity.

After Jesus’ physical work was done, God sends the Holy Spirit into the world, and to live in each individual who believes in the person and work of Jesus as for their own benefit.  Such persons are bound together in community – known as “The Church”.  Such persons are enlisted and empowered by God, through his Holy Spirit, to continue the work of Jesus in their communities and world today: befriending the outcasts, helping the underdogs, affecting people’s quality of life for the better, rehabilitating the captives – whether incarcerated or addicted or spiritually mixed up, and binding up the broken, even when it is their own choices and mistakes that have broken them.  This is the ministry of Christ, the tall order that New Life Church seeks to pursue.
